We love our dogs. Humans and canines go way back in history and it shows. Doesn't a wagging doggy tail make you smile? How can you resist the enthusiastic kisses of a puppy? Dogs have always held a special place in the human heart. Yet so much of what humans think they know about dog behavior has been poisoned by wrong and out-dated beliefs.
As our canine companions have transitioned with us to suburban and urban lifestyles, new problems have cropped up, threatening the great relationship between dogs and humans. Every year, far too many dogs are given away, turned out of their homes, or "euthanized" for engaging in natural but unwanted behaviors like urinating or defecating in the house, barking, biting, chewing inappropriately or playing too roughly. Desperate owners try various remedies and usually believe they've done all they can. But they haven't! Consulting an experienced behavior expert is the best way to not only address unwanted behaviors, but to actually prevent these problems from developing in the first place.
Dan can help you in the following ways:
Private Training:
The purpose of training is to teach obedience and/or solve nuisance problem behaviors (manners issues like jumping, leash pulling, etc). Even though you can learn basic commands in a group obedience course, or you could drop your dog off somewhere to learn how to listen to someone else for loads of money, private lessons provide a more effective and enjoyable way to train. Remember that while your dog needs training, so do YOU! Personal attention from Dan ensures that you and your dog will be able to work at your pace and on only those subjects that matter to you, or even exceed the curriculum normally taught in group classes.
Private training sessions take place in the convenience of your own home, at least to begin with. Later, you and Dan can take field trips to parks and other public places to "proof" your obedience! A package of four home visits may be purchased for $300 or you may purchase lessons individually at $85 each. When you contact Dan to schedule a home visit, please be sure to tell him where you live so he can factor travel time into his schedule.
Do you own an additional dog who could use some training? Each dog beyond the first participating in training is only $20 additional per lesson. The discount applies only to dogs that you personally own and only if both dogs participate in the same lesson.
Behavior Consultations:
Behavior consultations are appointments intended to address a specific problem or set of problems that wouldn't be solved with just obedience training. Consultations can take place in your own home or you may choose a remote consultation by phone or email. After the consultation, you will receive a written behavior plan and Dan will follow up with you in person, by phone, or e-mail as necessary. Sometimes obedience training is part of the solution to a behavior problem and as part of your behavior plan, Dan will give you his recommendation for which obedience services might be helpful.
-An initial in-home consultation lasts up to 2 hours, results in a detailed, written, custom behavior plan, and costs $145. Follow-up home visits are $85 and last about an hour. Follow-up conversations by phone and email are offered at no charge for 6 months after the most recent in-person session. Thereafter, a charge of $85 applies to extend remote follow-up for another 6 months.
-An initial remote consult is done by phone, usually, and lasts up to two hours. The cost is $120. Following the consult, Dan will provide a detailed, written custom behavior plan. Further follow-up by phone and email is offered at no charge for 6 months after the initial consult. Thereafter, a charge of $85 applies to extend remote follow-up for another 6 months.
Does your behavior problem involve more than one pet? Dan's got you covered for $50 per extra pet at the initial consult and $20 per pet involved at each in-person follow up.

The Fine Print:
- Listed prices do not include tax
- There is an added charge of $5 if you wish to pay by credit or debit card
- Dan is happy to make house calls and travel within 100 miles of his home in Camillus to help folks with their dog and cat behavior problems. However, the extra time spent traveling limits his ability to make time for other clients and costs a bit in gas and maintenance on his old Rav4. For this reason, please expect a charge of $1 per mile for travel over 25 miles from his home in Camillus
- In order for Dan to work with any dog or cat over the age of 16 weeks, Dan needs proof that your pet has been vaccinated against Rabies. A current rabies certificate is acceptable proof. A receipt or rabies tag is not acceptable.
- Dan is not liable for any injury or property damage that occurs during a behavior consult or training session or as a result of your training or implementing any of Dan's advice.
- The outcome of training and behavior consultations cannot be guaranteed. Payment is non-refundable once services have been provided or after a year, whichever comes first.
- You may schedule your session for any time up to a year after you paid for it. If you paid for more than one session but didn't use them all and want your money back for the unused sessions, refunds will be provided only if you are within a year of the date of purchase and the refund will be pro-rated (meaning that the package pricing is treated as if it never applied and you will be charged at the per-session rate for however many sessions you actually attended).
- If you postpone or reschedule with less than 48 hours warning more than once without a valid reason (illness, emergency, serious weather event, etc) or if you aren't home or no-show to a training lesson more than once, Dan reserves the right to charge you for the scheduled service.
- By agreeing to work with Dan, you are agreeing to all these terms.
